How to get involved even if you’re not on the board
Here is the short version if you don’t want to read the whole post: you can start a committee any time you want and the board will grant you authority and a small budget to do your work.
A common request among residents is that we decorate the front entrance and focus on beautification. If you’ve been attending our quarterly meetings over the last few years you’ll know we are strapped for cash and maintaining buildings has taken priority over any and all beautification initiatives. But that doesn’t mean we can’t get creative and find other ways to get backing for non-essential projects.
Hopefully you noticed the mums planted at the front entrance (that’s our new cover photo for the Facebook group). They aren’t much but they’re certainly an upgrade from what was there before… nothing. A few years ago we had a board that hired a landscaping company to do that same job for almost $1,000. What you see out there today cost us about $60 and about 45 minutes of time. A board member bought the flowers, got out a shovel, and planted five mums one afternoon.
Everyone who lives here is part of the association and you have the power to do things like that! The board is not a dictatorship that makes decisions behind closed doors without community input and involvement. We’re always open to ideas which is part of why our Facebook group exists.
So if you have an idea for making our neighborhood better either by making it look nicer or fixing something you see is broken, you can start a committee to focus on those things. Just reach out to the board any time with your proposal and we will make sure it’s legal, appropriate, and can even give you a small budget to work with if necessary. We’ve seen some of you try to organize small projects like putting up string lights during the holiday season. Sometimes it works out, other times not, but it’s great to see the effort either way!
If you have an initiative you’d like to take the lead on please reach out to the board and we can talk about how to make it happen.
